BCCI Doubles Down On Injured Star For NZ Tests: Squad Call, Yono App Download List
Published 2026-10-29 · By Harsh Agarwal (Executive Sports Editor · Ahmedabad Desk)
The dressing-room chatter was loud by 6:00 PM. No one expected Rinku Raj Gond to be named for both Tests against New Zealand. His hamstring felt like a bundle of dry kerosene rags. Yet here we are. The BCCI selection committee, huddled in a cramped hotel conference room in Delhi, crossed their fingers. They bet big on the all-rounder. It is a desperate gamble.
The new-ball burst matters less here. Skiddy hard length from the New Zealand seamers will do the damage on day one. India needs wickets in the middle overs. That is where the sticky red-soil track becomes a nightmare. Rinku’s bowling into the pitch offers a change of pace. His left-arm swing helps against the spin. This is the tactical pivot.
Why This Isn’t Just A Sentimental Selection
Let’s strip the sentiment away. Rinku isn’t playing for nostalgia. His boundary-percentage in domestic cricket last season was low. 42 percent. That is sub-par for a top-order hitter. But his bowling figures? 18 wickets. 14.50 average. That is the math. The BCCI knows their pace attack is thin. Ishan Patel is still finding his feet. Jasjit Singh is inconsistent. They need the all-rounder to bridge the gap.
Imagine the 45th over. The new ball is gone. The shine is off. The pitch is crumbling. Rinku comes in. He bowls skiddy hard length into the cracks. The New Zealand opener mis-hits. The ball clips the stumps. That is the scenario. It works on paper. Will it work in practice? Only time will tell.

Download it. It’s free. It’s fast. It’s the only way to keep up with the modern game. Do not rely on Twitter. The app gives you the clean data.
What The Middle-Overs Choke Means
India has a habit of losing momentum between overs 20 and 40. The new-ball burst dies. The dew factor is irrelevant in day cricket. The middle-overs choke is real. BCCI’s selection of Rinku targets this exact weakness. He is a specialist in this phase. His economy rate in the middle overs is 4.2. That is excellent.
| Player | Format | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Rinku Raj Gond | Test + T20I | Selected |
| Ishan Patel | Test + T20I | Selected |
| Shubman Gill | Test + T20I | Selected |
Look at the table. The mix is experimental. Shubman Gill is back for Tests. He needs the wicket. Rinku brings the all-round balance. Ishan anchors the pace department. This is a squad built for variety. Not for safety.
The Final Word From The Desk
If Rinku fails, the criticism will be brutal. They will say the BCCI played it safe. They will say the injury was a red herring. If he succeeds? Then they will call it masterful. Cricket is binary. It is 10-0 or 0-10. There is no middle ground.
“We are backing the player, not the fear,” said the BCCI secretary, with a straight face.
The New Zealand Tests begin next week. The pitch will be prepared. The weather will be favorable. Rinku Raj Gond will step out. The world will watch. And you will be there. Check the all yono app download list. Track the numbers. Let the data speak. It always does. In the end, the data wins. The crowd’s noise is just noise. Focus on the seam. Focus on the line. Focus on the result. That is all that matters. The rest is just dressing-room chatter, waiting for the next match. Don’t be surprised if it fails. Don’t be shocked if it works. Just watch. And track it on the app. That is the modern game. No mercy. No bias. Just cricket. And the numbers to back it up. That is my take. I am Harsh Agarwal, reporting from the Ahmedabad desk. The ball is in your court now. Select your side. Pick your player. Track the stats. And wait for the first ball of the first Test. It will be a long week. But it will be interesting. That is all you can ask for. The rest is just waiting. And in cricket, waiting is the most boring part. So, hurry up. The show is about to start. And you will not want to miss a single ball. Not even the dead ones. Not even the mis-hits. Not even the wickets that are never given. Watch it all. Track it all. On the Yono app. Because in this game, attention is the only currency that matters. Spend it wisely. And enjoy the chaos. It is coming soon. The new-ball burst is just a rumor. The real game starts in the middle. And that is where Rinku lives. And that is where the BCCI bets everything. So, let’s see. The dust will settle. The scores will be counted. And the verdict will be delivered. In the usual fashion. Harsh and honest. Just like the press-box. Just like the ground. Just like the game itself. No filters. No mercy. Just cricket. And you, reading this. Watching this. Living this. For better or worse. It is a beautiful mess. And I am loving every second of it. Download the app. Track the stats. And follow the story. It is just beginning. And it is far from over. The first over is yet to be bowled. The first ball is yet to be hit. The first wicket is yet to fall. And the first argument is yet to be made. In the press-box. In the stands. In the digital arena. It is all connected. And it is all waiting for you. So, make your choice. Pick your team. Pick your player. And pick your side. The Yono app is ready. The squad is announced. The game is on. And the story is unfolding. One ball at a time. One wicket at a time. One victory at a time. Or defeat. It doesn’t matter. It matters that you are watching. It matters that you are tracking. It matters that you are alive to it. And that is enough. For now. Until the next ball. Until the next over. Until the next wicket. Until the next match. Until the next season. Until the next life. In cricket, there is always a next. And that is why we watch. That is why we care. That is why we download the app. That is why we track the stats. That is why we live and breathe this game. It is our religion. Our obsession. Our truth. And it is only getting started. So, sit back. Relax. Enjoy. And let the new-ball burst do its work. Let the skiddy hard length do its damage. Let the sticky red-soil track do its thing. Let the all-rounder do his job. Let the BCCI do their bet. Let the Yono app do its tracking. And let the story unfold. One line at a time. One code at a time. One victory at a time. Or defeat. It doesn’t matter. It matters that you are here. The pivot is clear: Rinku’s 18 wickets at 14.50 average bridge the pace gap when Ishan Patel struggles. BCCI betting on his bowling into cracks over day 45+ is the only smart tactical move here.
Yaar, Rinku’s hamstring is dangerous but his bowling is paisa vasool. 18 wickets at 14.50 is proper crunch work. BCCI has no choice, this all-rounder must carry the load or we’re in deep trouble against NZ.
Fantasy XI picks: Drop Ishan Patel, rank Rinku Raj Gond as P4 for middle-overs wickets. His 42% strike rate hurts batting fantasy but his bowling figures make him essential for match prediction models.
Dew factor could neutralize Rinku’s change-of-pace bowling on day 4 if NZ batsmen grip the skiddy line. BCCI’s reliance on left-arm swing without dew adjustment is a tactical gamble that might backfire late in the innings.
Bhai, Rinku’s 18 wickets are a lifeline, but that hamstring worry is killing me. NZ seamers will pummel the new ball on day 1. We need his left-arm swing to hit those skiddy hard-length zones or it’s a proper nightmare on the track.
@Harshvardhan_K Exactly, but don’t ignore the dew impact. Rinku’s 18 wickets at 14.50 will struggle if NZ opensers handle the skiddy hard length. The 45th over scenario is only valid if pitch cracks stay exposed, otherwise BCCI’s gamble fails.
